The fortifications
The fortifications of Saint-Malo are among the most impressive coastal defenses in France. Built mainly between the 12th and 18th centuries, the massive granite walls were designed to protect the city from pirate attacks and foreign invasions. The ramparts surround the historic center and offer panoramic views of the sea and nearby islands. Walking along these walls, visitors can see bastions, towers, and gates that once guarded the city. The fortifications were strengthened by the famous military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in the 17th century. Visit the cathedral
The Saint-Malo Cathedral is one of the most important landmarks in the historic city of Saint-Malo. Also known as the Cathedral of Saint Vincent, it was built between the 12th and 18th centuries. The cathedral combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles, giving it a unique appearance.
